BUILD MY / TEAMS · FIELD GUIDE

Build ownership before adding headcount.

Make the work, decisions, and handoffs visible.

Start with outcomes

List the outcomes the business needs each week. Assign one accountable owner to each. People may share the work, but they need to know who makes the final decision and who is responsible for moving it forward.

Define a useful handoff

For each recurring handoff, specify what arrives, what “ready” means, and where the next person finds it. This can be a simple checklist. Ambiguity at the handoff often creates more rework than the task itself.

Create a review rhythm

Use a brief recurring review to discuss progress, blocked decisions, and the next priorities. Keep the focus on work that changes an outcome. Update the process when the same obstacle appears repeatedly.
